Martin Stephenson Daintees and John Perry Only Ones certainly have a New Wave Connection, which goes way back to 1979…
Martin learned the solo to Another Girl Another Planet as a seventeen-year-old, which ended up getting him a gig with some older boys in a band called The Cosmic Outbursts, so Mr Perry was already influencing the young Mr S.
In 2019, JP & MS got chatting on Facebook and decided to do a pub gig together in London for a laugh.
They got on so well that not long after Martin invited JP to join the Daintees as a special guest at a sold-out Chelsea Under the Bridge gig in London. John joined the band on stage for a rip-roaring version of ‘Another Girl…’ – played as a homage to The Only Ones from The Daintees.
That evening of music inspired Martin to create a platform for John’s sublime guitar playing, entitled New Wave Connection.
During that process, in the Spring of 2022, JP & MS broke off to do a wee tour of Ireland, taking in Dublin, Dundalk & Thurles.
On returning to the UK, Martin recruited his neighbour Davy Cowan (legendary highland troubadour) on Bass, and his 18-year-old son Sam on drums; these two fit like a glove with MS and JP and the vibe was on…
New Wave Connection was born.
John recently appeared as a special guest at Martin’s shows in Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Swansea, Cardiff, and Bristol, where the New Wave combo teamed up live for the first time, bringing the houses down.
A truly special team of intuitive musicians coming together by serendipity…
A celebration not to be missed
