Organized by: Heritage Open Days
Visitors to Barton-upon-Humber often comment on the proximity of two medieval churches to one another. For centuries, St Mary’s was junior to St Peter’s, the Parish Church, despite its impressive near-cathedral size and its Grade I listing. Now categorised as one of England’s 300 Major Parish Churches, it has its own story to tell, from the London wine-merchant buried in the chancel to the heartbreaking memorial to a young woman who died in childbirth.
