Dating back to 1944,  this American psychological thriller film directed by George Cukor and starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten, and Angela Lansbury (in her film debut). follows a young woman whose husband slowly manipulates her into believing that she is descending into insanity.  Ten years after her aunt was murdered in their London home, a woman returns from Italy in the 1880s to resume residence with her new husband.
