Spoilt for choice in Barton this weekend

Visitors and residents alike are spoilt for choice this weekend in Barton as the Heritage Open Days continue and Barton Carnival takes place in Baysgarth Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Heritage Open Days starts tomorrow (Sept 7) with a guided walk of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust’s Far Ings National Nature Reserve from 11am to 12.45pm to kick-start the festivities and continues with a Film Archive Shorts Night at Ropery Hall starting at 7.30pm.

In total, eight venues around Barton are running 14 different events throughout the weekend, all completely free of charge, for all the family. There’s a Hidden History family trail with costumed characters, guided tours of St. Peter’s Church and Tyrwhitt Hall, an exhibition and tours at Baysgarth House Museum on the house’s last private owners, the Wright Taylor Family, a special display at Providence House about its colourful past put on by Barton Library, guided tours of The Ropewalk and events at the Wilderspin National School Museum.

Barton Carnival begins on Saturday with a parade leaving Tesco at 12 noon following the route of the November Lantern Parade but continuing down Burgate, Whitecross Street, Market Lane and Place, Brigg Road and onto Preston Lane before entering Baysgarth Park through the main entrance.

Both days of the Carnival run from 12 noon to 5pm and includes a host of arena entertainments as well as Barton Cruft’z Dog Show which takes place on Sunday from 12 noon.

In addition there is live entertainment “Live at the Carnival” on the Saturday evening starting at 7pm and the traditional Carnival Funfair opening on Friday between 6pm and 9pm and continuing on Saturday between 12 noon and 9pm and on Sunday between 12 noon and 6pm.

Entry to the Carnival is £3 adults, £2 senior citizens, £1 children and under 5s free.
