Barton is set to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style with a host of events planned over the long Bank Holiday weekend at the beginning of June to celebrate the occasion.
Events get under way on Friday, June 1, with the start of the Flower Festival being held at St Mary’s Church on Burgate and continue the following day with a tea organised by the Saturday Club which meets at the Tofts Road Day Centre and a 1950s Band Night at The Queens promoted by Barton Arts.
Sunday sees another bumper diary with a Jubilee Songs of Praise, organised by Churches Together, and held in the grounds of St Augustine’s on Whitecross Street, an afternoon tea party held on The Ropewalk Promenade and the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Visitors’ Centre’s “Grand Day Out.”
On Monday, June 4, the Town Council are holding its Jubilee in the Park (brought forward from the usual August event) which will be followed later that evening by the town’s Beacon Master, Cllr John Oxley, lighting the town’s beacon at the Viewing Area as part of a nationwide chain of beacons.
