Welcome back to the new look Wilderspin as the museum re-opens after the Covid lockdowns. The school staff and volunteers have been busy during the COVID period and the whole site has been re-interpreted. Explore the world’s only reconstruction of a Samuel Wilderspin school, the founder of infant education and learning through fun.

“We wanted to refresh the museum, give people something new to see and help people to understand the story of Wilderspin.”, said Ali Bodley, Get Involved Project Manager. “We have extended our story of learning from Wilderspin’s time in the 1840’s to more recent times with the opening of our new Victorian and World War Two classrooms.”

The Victorian Classroom

The formal launch will take place in September, but over the summer the public can come for a sneak preview.
“We have a range of family focused events over the summer from costumed tours through to experiencing a real Victorian or War time classroom session”, continued Ali, “You can finish your trip in our award-winning café The School Canteen. It makes a lovely morning or afternoon out.”

The Museum re-opens from July 22nd 10-4pm Thursday – Sunday. Entrance to the museum is FREE, but donations are encouraged. Booking not required. Events are charged for and must be booked in advance.
