Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in Barton

A full programme of events is planned in Barton to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
On Thursday, June 2, there will be a flotilla of 70 vessels setting sail from Hull Marina at 6.45pm arriving at the Humber Bridge at approximately 7.15pm before returning.
The craft will range from inshore lifeboats operated by Humber Rescue and an eclectic mix of pleasure boats, fire fighting tugs, fast patrol boats from Humberside Police and Humberside Fire Service, the MCA, and Trinity House. There will also be various historic ships including Humber Sloops and Keels, Offshore Wind Work boats and Trawlers from the UK fishing fleet, all representing the Humber’s history and it’s economic importance to the UK. Featured within the flotilla will be The Yorkshire Belle pleasure Cruiser from Bridlington, built in Beverley in 1947 and a replica of Admiral Lord Nelson’s Royal Navy Schooner HMS Pickle.
Later that evening Barton Town Council, like many thousands of cities, towns and villages across the country will light the beacon on the Humber foreshore at the Humber Bridge Viewing Area adjacent to the Viking Café and Bar.
Enjoy live ceremonial music as the Beacon is lit by Town Mayor Cll Paul Vickers at 9.45pm to commemorate this momentous mile-stone
The following morning the spotlight turns to Baysgarth Park where Barton Town Council has erected a big screen to screen Trooping the Colour and the Flypast. From 9.30 am onwards there will also be various activities in the Marquee, and a Queen’s Discovery Trail.
In the marquee in the afternoon Barton Lions is hosting a Jubilee Tea Party from 2pm to 5pm for the Over-60s to enjoy tea and cake.
On Saturday morning Barton and District Athletic Club has organised a Jubilee 5k and 2k run in Baysgarth Park. The 5k run starts at 11am and the family friendly 2k run/walk starts at 12 noon. All runners and walkers who complete the course will receive a Platinum Jubilee medal donated by Barton Upon Humber Town Council.
