Good Manors and Good Deeds – Barton Civic Society
The first talk in the 2020 programme organised by Barton Civic Society sees Paul Mann talk about Good Manors and Good Deeds. Deeds for land and property are often seen as boring and repetitive yet they have a long history dating back to at least the reign of King Alfred. Paul will trace the development of the English manorial system and styles of land ownership. As well as some examples of deeds we also look at matters such as how to plough with a team of oxen and how to hide your land from the king.
