Julie Edwards Quartet with Ed Barnwell

We welcome back to Barton Julie Edwards, first lady of swing has an expressive, vocal style. With many accolades she is indeed “a true jazz singer – sparkles like a real gem, her voice is a delight to listen to”. Ed Barnwell started playing at three years of age,  continuing at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal Northern College of Music.  A composer, educator and powerful performer, he has had commissions for Manchester Jazz Festival and Edinburgh International Festival. A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, teacher and a multi-instrumentalist, Kevin Dearden features on electric bass with fluent and natural command. Currently resident at the Beverley Lairgate Jazz Club and a member of Jenni Molloy’s Bach Reloaded Trio + 1, Chris Sykes has played sticks as powerhouse for many local and national bands.

John Etheridge with Vimala Rowe

John Etheridge rightly enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world and beyond as, “one of the best guitarists in the world”.  He is a prodigiously gifted and creative player whose approach to music can only be described as “eclectic” without artificial musical boundaries. John has headed many Jazz Festivals (sensationally with Nigel Kennedy in Scarborough) and recorded with Stephan Grapelli,  John Willams and our other sensational headline singer/songwriter.  Vimala Rowe sings with John as well as a select band was winner of The Indy Music Award – Best Soul/Jazz/Funk, and described by The Arts Desk as sensational.  Her appearance in “The Jazz Café Society” brought many national accolades

 Matt Smith Quintet

Matt Smith  is described by Scarborough Jazz as “…a powerful and inventive tenor”  He is recognised as a young budding jazz star who will surely follow in the footsteps of Snake Davis with his soul-jazz style.  We are pleased to feature his quintet including Martin Jones on trumpet. “Definitely one to watch out for!” Matt will also be running an exclusive horn workshop during Saturday.

Late Night Marauders

This is a duo of immense stature with Ruth Scott presenting earthy, original and traditional gut-wrenching blues and sweet ballads accompanied by the inventive, driving as well as expressive piano style of Ben Saville. Although young, they are becoming well known at festivals and we are privileged to hear them in Barton.

Tickets     £29 (including full screen film of Get Carter and Bar Jazz entertainment)
