The Fall and Rise of the National Picture Theatre – Barton Civic Society

Start:
April 15, 2016
Address:
United Kingdom

Fri 15 April

The Fall and Rise of the National Picture Theatre Cinemas played a vital role during the Second World War, providing news and entertainment and maintaining morale. Hull’s National Picture Theatre is England’s last civilian blitzed ruin.  Using historic photos, Hilary Byers tells the story of the bombing in 1941 of the cinema, how its significance was recognised over fifty years later, and how these listed ruins are being rescued and preserved to teach future generations about the part played by civilians in the Second World War.

Talks take place at the Assembly Rooms, Queen Street (except 16 September) and commence at 7.30pm.  For up to date information visit: www.bartoncivicsociety.co.uk

Admission for Civic Society members is free.  Non-members £2.
